The Masked Singer Knocks Out Andy & Melisa: ‘Megafigures!’

The return of the RTL 4 hit The Masked Singer is an overwhelming success. The commercial competitor SBS 6, meanwhile, is patiently watching Andy & Melisa receive the final blow.

The fourth season of the RTL 4 show The Masked Singer has had a fantastic start. The first episode managed to captivate more than 2.2 million viewers last night, good for a majestic market share of 41 percent. By way of comparison: the grand final of Holland’s Got Talent attracted 1.4 million viewers at the same time last week.

‘Wow, wow!!!!!’

Viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp rolled out of bed this morning with big eyes. The former broadcaster boss of SBS 6 does not know what she is experiencing. “The Masked Singer is THE big ratings winner of the day, week, and this entire TV season so far,” she writes. “Never before has a prime-time program (not football) scored above 2 million this season.”

The previous season of The Masked Singer scored slightly more viewers with the opener, namely 155 thousand viewers more. That should not spoil the fun, according to Tina. “Even in the target group 20-54 years, an incredibly high figure: 55.4 percent market share. An unbelievable record! Wow, wow, wow!!!!”

Higher than football

These kinds of market shares are really rare, according to Tina. “Even considerably higher than the scores of matches of the Dutch national team, European football and the Half Eight News. In the target group 6 to 12 years, even a market share of 73.3 percent. But also in the so difficult to reach group of 20 to 34 years, 62.3 percent!”

It’s really bizarre, says Tina. “These are numbers you hardly ever see, so incredibly high. Not just whipped cream cakes, flowers, but maybe a real party is in order here.”

Clap

And who is crying this morning? For Andy van der Meijde and his beloved Melisa Schaufeli. They already scored a lot with their real life soap Andy & Melisa, but are now completely stuck with the viewing figures leftovers. They did not get more than 130 thousand viewers (2 percent) yesterday.

Tina: “Drama on SBS 6. Andy and Melisa only have 2.9 percent (!) in 20 to 54 years. Worse: Andy scores even higher on little brother Veronica: 187 thousand viewers for Veronica Offside. A rarity that Veronica scores higher than SBS 6 with non-football. Also including delayed viewing, Andy and Melisa are not a viewing figure stunner.”
