Most of the Barcelonans are in favor of the expansion of El Prat Airport, a project for now stopped that has faced the Catalan political parties in different forums. This January he returns to the present for his role in the negotiation of the budgets of the Generalitat.
According to the pre-election survey that the Gabinet d’Estudis Socials i Opinió Pública (GESOP) has prepared for EL PERIÓDICO, 53.3% of those consulted are in favor of the expansion, which 34.5% reject. 5.3% do not know or do not answer.
Division in the consistory
The expansion of the airport is one of the issues that has separated the partners of the Barcelona government, Barcelona en Comú, and the other, the PSC, during this mandate. Those of Ada Colau flatly reject the growth of the airport, essentially because they consider that it would mean increasing the volume of tourists arriving in the Catalan capital, which now seems excessive to them. Those of Jaume Collboni, on the other hand, consider that the enlargement is necessary because they consider that it would have positive consequences in terms of economic growth.
The plan, for now stopped, is current since the Catalan socialists use it as a condition to support the budgets of the Generalitat for 2023. ERC, which in the consistory advocated the ‘no’ with the same argument as Barcelona en Comú : the risk of a large increase in the number of tourists arriving in the city.
