Felix Magath became German champion three times as a coach. Most recently he saved Hertha BSC from relegation in 2022. There won’t be a possible comeback for the time being.
Felix Magath apparently will not be the new coach of Unterhaching. As the “Bild” newspaper reports, the 71-year-old has canceled the third division club. There is said to have been a conversation between Magath and the club president Manni Schwabl, but the former Bundesliga coach lacked prospects for engagement. He also continues to speculate on a job in the first league.
The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reported on Sunday that third division bottom club Unterhaching was seeking to sign the former Bayern Munich champion coach. According to the newspaper’s information, the discussions with the prominent trainer had “already progressed quite far.”
When asked by the newspaper, Unterhaching’s President Schwabl at least made it clear that the coaching question was open. However, he left the question of whether he is already negotiating with other coaching candidates unanswered.
Since the beginning of December, Sven Bender has been coaching the Munich suburbs, who are in serious danger of relegation, after Marc Unterberger was released from the club. However, Bender does not have a coaching license for the 3rd league. Magath worked at Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV and Schalke 04, among others. He became German champion three times: in 2005 and 2006 with FC Bayern, and in 2009 with Wolfsburg.
He was most recently under contract with Hertha BSC and managed to stay in the league in 2022. Afterwards, however, he did not get another contract with the Berliners, who were now only second-rate.
