A legend of the English club Liverpool Ian Rush64, got a serious illness earlier in December and had to be hospitalized due to the so-called “super flu”.
He told For The Mirror that he was afraid he would die. Rush said he woke up around 2 a.m. to make tea due to breathing problems. He collapsed at his home in Cheshire and ended up spending around 48 hours in intensive care.
– It was horrible. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to make it. I lay on the floor and gasped. I thought I was going to die from this. I was panicking, he told the magazine.
Rush’s spouse called an ambulance, and the paramedics got the man in a better condition. He refused to go to the hospital.
However, soon after leaving the first aid, he collapsed again. While waiting for the second ambulance to arrive, her fiancé, a 42-year-old Irish singer Carol Anthonyhelped him stay calm and breathe better.
Rush emphasized his spouse’s support and reassuring words in the interview. When paramedics arrived, Rush was pale and in poor condition. He needed supplemental oxygen.
The legend was transported to the hospital, where he spent a good while.
– I was in the intensive care unit for 48 hours and then in the general ward for three days before I was allowed home, he said.
The Welshman returned home just before Christmas.
The so-called “super flu” epidemic has spread widely across the UK, with several hospitals across the country declaring a state of emergency.
According to the country’s health leaders, this winter could be the worst flu season in British history.
Rush was a central figure in Liverpool’s dynasty of the 1980s. He played for the club twice, and on both of his visits he won caps with the team. In between, he represented the Italian giant Juventus.
Rush was for a long time the top scorer for the Welsh national team with 28 goals in 73 A matches until Gareth Bale broke the record in 2018.
