The former left wing played his last handball game. Gensheimer competed against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen with an all-star team.

Honor to whom honor is due. The goosebumps atmosphere in the sold -out SAP Arena was already in front of the start after numerous former companions Gensheimer had arrived and were waiting for the leading actor. Among them were some top stars who were used at the World Cup until last week.

There were numerous former companions such as Jogi Bitter, Kai Häfner, Andreas Wolff, Andy Schmid and Christian Schwarzer, world champion from 2007.

“That was amazing that it took place again in this context. There were so many boys,” said Gensheimer after the game in an interview with SWR Sport, said that in addition to numerous handball players, coach Nikolaj Jacobsen, who came on Sunday still got the World Cup title with Denmark. “Today the focus was on fun, and yet in the end it became emotional again.

Gensheimer with over 200 international matches

Gensheimer ended his active career last year due to persistent knee problems. The 38-year-old was one of the best left wing worldwide.

Gensheimer is preserved as the sporting director of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The club, to which he changed in 2003 and which was then called SG Kronau/Östringen at the time. 13 years later, the left winger Paris Saint-Germain joined before returning to the lions in 2019. Gensheimer played 204 games for the German national team and scored 921 goals.
