“The Last of Us” Season 2: All about the start, cast, plot

Thanks to the enormous success of the series, it is already certain before the end of the first season that there will be at least a second season of “The Last of Us”. Here’s what we already know about the sequel.

The series “The Last of Us” has been very well received by both critics and audiences. Viewership is huge, as are the ratings. This is probably the main reason why it is now clear at an early stage that the series will definitely be continued. But what’s next for Ellie and Joel? And when can we expect new episodes? TECHBOOK collects all rumors and facts about “The Last of Us” Season 2.

When is The Last of Us Season 2 coming out?

Even if the official announcement of the sequel is not surprising given the success of the series, the comparatively early timing is a bit unusual. After just three episodes of “The Last of Us” were released, the producing broadcaster HBO announced a second season at the end of January 2023.

However, we do not know anything about the exact start date. Usually, however, the schedule of previous seasons gives good clues. The shooting of the first season alone lasted eleven months, from July 2021 to June 2022. Post-production also took several months until the series started in January 2023. An early release is therefore not to be expected. Because even if the shooting should go faster due to the flattened corona situation, there are probably no scripts yet. Accordingly, one cannot before that Summer 2024 Expect The Last of Us Season 2.

That’s what the sequel is about

Attention, from here some follow spoiler to the plot of season 1 and the video game of Naughty Dogs!

No further details are planned about the plot of the new season. However, since the 1st season of “The Last of Us” pretty much adapts the 1st part of the video game, the screenwriters have to look around for new material. Of course, the 2nd part of the games is obvious, as long as the 1st season ends with the exact plot of its template. Otherwise, of course, it can be assumed that the events of “The Last of Us Part I” will first be told to the end.

The Last of Us Part II picks up four years later, after Ellie and Joel escaped from the Fireflies. Even more than in the first part, Ellie comes into focus, who has to deal with the loss of a loved one and embarks on a long and bloody revenge campaign.

The fact that “The Last of Us” season 2 will also adapt the second game is also due to a statement by series creator Craig Mazin. The American has already come out as a fan of the games several times in the past. For example, he told the industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter: “The way to break the video game curse is to adapt the best video game story of all time (…).” And already during the promo tour He also stated that he didn’t particularly like so-called “filler episodes” about the series. So fans don’t have to expect the creators to lose time in the plot of the sequel.

For me, the story of the first game is wonderful. It’s complete, it deserves a season, we know how to tell it within a season – so the question didn’t even arise. And I promise, if we’re lucky enough to get more seasons done and the story to continue, we’ll continue to make sure every episode is worth the wait.

The Cast of The Last of Us Season 2

So far, no departures or newcomers are known. So we can assume that at least parts of the previous cast will remain in “The Last of Us” Season 2 – as long as their characters are still alive, of course. However, due to the time jump, not all known characters are present, at least in the game, and of course new characters are also added.

In order not to spoil too much, we will keep the cast list as short as possible at this point and will add the confirmed cast members in the future:

  • Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams
  • Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller
  • Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Joel’s brother
