The Kremlin promised to celebrate May 9 “as always”

Last year, Victory Day bypassed the New Year in importance for Russians. According to a SuperJob survey, 95% of respondents positively assessed the Victory Parade, 94% of respondents approved of the New Year, and 92% had a birthday. The Day of Russia and the Day of National Unity deserved the least approval (81% and 75% respectively).

In 2021, more than 12,000 servicemen, 190 units of modern and historical ground military equipment, as well as 76 aircraft and helicopters took part in the parade on Red Square. Tanks T-90M and “Armata”, self-propelled howitzers “Coalition-SV” and “Msta-S”, anti-aircraft missile systems “Buk-M3”, “Tor-M2”, S-400, armored vehicles of increased security of the family “Typhoon”.

The leaders of foreign countries did not come to last year’s parade. Then the Kremlin said that they did not plan to invite guests on May 9 due to the fact that the country was celebrating the 76th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and this is not an anniversary date.

In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the parade in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory was postponed, it took place on June 24. The event was attended by the heads of Abkhazia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, South Ossetia. A number of leaders refused to come to Moscow due to the situation with COVID-19.
