United Russia’s proposal to supply weapons to the unrecognized republics of Donbass is a party initiative that suggests that parliamentarians are sensitive to the situation in the region. The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told reporters about this, RBC correspondent reports.

“Yesterday’s United Russia initiative once again underscores how painfully the situation is perceived by our parliamentarians,” Peskov said.

A proposal to provide support to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk republics in the form of the supply of certain types of weapons was put forward the day before by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council, a member of the United Russia party, Andrei Turchak. According to him, this will increase their defense capability in the face of possible aggression from Ukraine.
