Every June 27, SME Day, puts that engine that supports a good part of the country. In Argentina almost 97% of companies are small and medium -sized and generate 60% of private employment. However, the current context – inflation, uncertainty, dizzying technological changes – forces them to ask something deeper than how to survive: how to evolve? Because in times where urgency marks the rhythm of the agenda and control seems to be the only strategy, many times what is no more technology, but a new organizational consciousness.

From what place are we leading our companies? It is not just about having a presence in social networks or implementing artificial intelligence. True transformation starts when leaders are encouraged to look in. From what organizational paradigm decisions are made? How much space is there for real collaboration, genuine dialogue and collective construction? In his book “Reinvent the organizations”Frederic Laloux proposes an evolutionary scale to classify business cultures ranging from authoritarian and rigid structures (red/amber), through models focused on efficiency and results (orange), to inclusive and conscious organizations (green/teal). Many Argentine SMEs still operate at traditional levels – rigid structures, centralized decisions, reactive leadership— They worked at another time, but today they fall short of the current complexity.

The evolution does not begin with a consultant or software. Start when a SME owner is encouraged to ask this awkward question: what do I have to stop doing for my company to grow? Concepts as a shared purpose, self -management or culture of feedback are no longer just heritage of large multinationals. More and more SMEs begin to understand that profitability is not at odds with humanity. That building compromised equipment, based on trust, not only improves internal climate: it also impacts productivity and talent retention.

Models such as MDI (Integral Development Model), promoted by INTEGRALIS CONSULTINGThey show that cultural transformation does not require large budgets, but decision, coherence and an integral look of the business.

Talent seeks meaning, not just salary. According to a study of Deloitte (2024), 62% of young people between 18 and 35 would not accept working in a company whose values do not match their own, even if the salary is competitive. Harvard Business Review also confirms it: companies with a strong sense of purpose have 60% less rotation and 32% more productivity. These data are not a fashion trend. They are a call for attention.

Then, on this SME Day, it is not enough to celebrate the effort and resilience of those who undertake in Argentina. It is necessary to take another step: ask ourselves if our companies are prepared to lead from another place.

The true competitive advantage of the future is not in control or rigid planning. It is in the ability to build living organizational cultures, with purpose, adaptable and human. Because if we want a country with sustainable companies, we first need SMEs with conscious leaders.
