Justice is the violence in Veen completely fed up during the New Year. Every year it gets out of hand in the village: car wrecks are set on fire and the care providers who come to that are shouted and pelted with stones, bottles and fireworks.

Despite all the measures, it was again in Veen this year. In the New Year’s Eve this time, in addition to eight car wrecks, even a police car was set on fire by the rioters. And too this year, the police and fire brigade were allowed to count on the same hostile reception from a group of hundreds of young people.

In the end, two young people aged 15 and 16 were arrested and a man of 24. And this 24-year-old man from Wijk and Aalburg had to come to court in Breda on Friday afternoon for open violence against the police.

It is not known whether the Public Prosecution Service will continue to continue other rioters. There were perhaps three hundred that night in Veen and if only one has to come to court, it may seem a bit crazy.

Sturdy warning
It became clear that the judiciary has finished the rioters. Perhaps from a kind of powerlessness, but at least to give a solid warning, the public prosecutor demanded no less than six months in prison, unconditionally.

It seemed a bit that the officer held the man responsible for the behavior of the entire group, who shouted and threw bottles and fireworks to the police.

He wanted to wipe the infamous intersection of Witboomstraat with the Van der Loostraat in order to extinguish the cars set on fire. The collected young people did not respond en masse, despite the many ME’ers and a water cannon.

The 24-year-old man said he didn’t notice that. He said he was a few hundred meters from the intersection and at one point threw a beer bottle towards a burning car. Immediately an agent jumped on his neck. When the man wanted to pull himself loose and went into struggle with another, ordinary agent, he got a bang with a baton.

The man was arrested for open violence. And three agents stated that he had thrown a beer bottle at the ME from seven meters away.

And yes, the judge could not ignore that either. Despite the objections of the man’s lawyer. She could not ignore three agents who explain something like that on office.

And the man from Wijk and Aalburg also knows the tradition of New Year in Veen, she said. He had even driven to Veen from Wijk and Aalburg at half past one at night. “You were part of that group of people who took care of chaos at the intersection and threw a bottle. And if you are there, in the middle of the night, chances are that the ME will be wipe the intersection. ”

The judge ruled that the police cannot see where that bottle is going. “You know that you shouldn’t be there if you don’t want to get into trouble. You just don’t have to go there. “

Community service
The judge thought the six -month prison, which justice demanded justice, thought far too much. The man was certainly not the biggest rioter in the group and had nothing to do with the car fires or set fire to the police car.

“Just think about your drinking and whether you should still go there as a young entrepreneur,” she said. “I do not put on an area ban for New Year’s Eve in Veen, because I just expect you to stay away there next year.”

The 24-year-old neighborhood and Aalburger eventually received a 120-hour community service.
