The judges gave a thumbs up to the Finnish skier

Ville Ahonen skied to 17th place on Holmenkollen. The referees gave a verbal warning.

The Holmenkollen 50 km race was decided by the judges To Ville Ahonen a verbal warning when the Finnish skier drifted into the oncoming lane.

– I thought it might be a warning. It was a bit of a challenging place when it hadn’t been counted many times and the group lived, Ahonen said.

In the second 8.3-kilometer lap, the Imatra athlete made the left turn long and did not stay within the track limits.

– Track limits are track limits and then you get a warning.

A verbal warning does not cause further action, so Ahonen’s otherwise very positive competition day in Oslo did not get any kind of negative aftertaste.

– It warms you up a lot, Ahonen, who finished in 17th place, said.

In spring condition

Ville Ahonen skied to 17th place on Sunday in Oslo’s royal competition. Pasi Liesimaa

The result is the 29-year-old skier’s second best at the mc level on normal trips. The top rating came the previous weekend in Lahti, when he was in 14th place at the traditional 20 kilometer intermediate start.

– Sunday was a complete race. The first half was a bit more challenging than the second.

In the middle of the competition, the man was in 28th place.

– The plot was familiar: if I have a good fifty race, it goes like this. At some point, it becomes difficult when you have to try to follow the lead. When you recover from that phase, your own skiing will come to an end. I am very satisfied.

Ahonen repeats his trick for the 2021–22 season. Also on other snow, the man was in the best result condition of the season from the end of the season. In 2022, with the three old mc points-placed skiing and the fiftieth SM bronze, Ahonen joined the A national team.

A strong spring vibe has been characteristic of the man throughout his career.

– If I knew, it would have been in the same condition since the beginning of winter. It’s hard to say why. I’ve done sprints since the beginning of winter, but normal trips have been challenging.

The bravura races of the South Karelia breeder are quite extreme, as they are a traditional sprint and a traditional 50 kilometers.

– Maybe natural qualities are behind it: I’m economical and I get hard for a moment. They help people in their fifties if they don’t have that much oxygen uptake capacity.

Bad taste

Markus Vuorela had the taste of bad Italian food in his mouth on Sunday in Oslo. PASI LEISMA

Markus Vuorela finished 35th in Oslo on Sunday.

– Some kind of bad Italian food, Vuorela answered the question about the taste in the mouth.

The Finn bowed to the winner of the race Johannes Kläbo just under four minutes.

– There were no significant events. The first ski was good and the second one had too much grip. The traction had to be braked off.

There were quite a few people in the forests of Holmenkollen on Sunday. Beer was not sprayed on the competitors this time.

– I would have taken it if there had been beer. There have probably never been so few people. The encouragement of the Finns was well heard. This race could be a little later, so more people would be there, Vuorela prepared the event that started at 10:30 local time.
