
Opera connoisseur of the first hour and NH radio program maker, Piet Bos, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86. That leaves his family through Facebook know. “We proudly look back on his beautiful years as an entertainer, father, (great-grand) grandfather, brother & friend.”
Piet Bos was born in 1936 in the Jordaan, a place where he lived all his life. Already in his childhood he started collecting opera music. Bos gained national fame under the name ‘Opera Pietje’. He was seen as a specialist in opera and bel canto.
Classic radio program
In the year 1970 Bos started playing his favorite arias for the first time as an ‘ether pirate’. A few years later, in 1984, this resulted in his own program at STAD Radio Amsterdam. A program that was added to Radio Noord-Holland not much later. Every first Sunday of the month he makes a classic radio program there. After 25 years, that came to an end in 2013. It farewell became grand in Zaandam celebrated.
In the last years of his life, Bos was mainly involved in organizing various opera performances.
Silver Carnation
In 2007, Bos was awarded a prize for his achievements in the cultural field Silver Carnation. The Amsterdammer was regarded as an ambassador of opera and bel canto, was the explanation.
