It has been almost a decade and a half since Michael Bolton released an album consisting entirely of original songs. On his new work “Spark of Light” he doesn’t necessarily reinvent himself, but even after a career spanning almost half a century he is not afraid of change.
“We are not prisoners of how songs were written 20 years ago,” says the 70-year-old in our conversation via Zoom. “We don’t always have to be the same — we can change with the times. We can define how change looks and feels,” continued Bolton. His sound is of course a little different than in the 1980s, but the love for the big hooks and even bigger feelings has remained.
