Hellsinki Metal Festival has canceled the performance of the American band Ill Niño due to conflicts of values and logistical reasons.
Iltalehti reached the promoter of the event Toni Törrönen to comment on the matter. According to Törrönen, the conflicts of values concerned performing in Russia. It is not in accordance with the values of Hellsinki Metal Festival.
– They had thought that they could come to Finland for a gig after they have been on tour in Russia. In our opinion, this did not quite fit. We tried to discuss the topic to some extent, but it did not progress, Törrönen says.
Logistical problems also came into play.
– After all, and besides that, they wouldn’t have made it to us from another festival, says Törrönen.
Russia launched an extensive and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. Törrönen says that the festival wants to emphasize the importance of human values. Hellsinki Metal Festival collects money for charity every year. The Mental Health Association is an annual fundraiser. This year, the Women’s Line was also included.
The band is replaced by a band called Numento, which plays progressive metal. According to Törrönen, the band represents the future generation.
The Hellsingi Metal Festival will take place on the 7th-8th. August in Helsinki on Nordis. The main performers of the event are Opeth, Accept and Black Label Society. Ticket prices start at 139 euros. The age limit for the event is 18 years.
