The tournament team of the United States, which is the host country of the Soccer World Cup, was announced on Tuesday in New York.
At the event’s press conference Mauricio Pochettino was required to account about why the players who were left out of the games found out about their fate with just an e-mail message.
The Argentinian didn’t favor a more personal approach and didn’t pick up the phone like former US Soccer chief pilots Bob Bradley and Jurgen Klinsmann.
– That is a cruel way to treat players who have shed blood and sweat both in good times and in bad times, a member of the 2010 World Cup team Hérculez Gómez criticize.
– With Diego Luna (not selected) has the second most appearances in this team. Are they seriously saying that they didn’t pick up the phone and call him?
Lyon’s are also out Tanner Tessmann and Middlesbrough Aidan Morris.
Having experienced two bitter World Cup disappointments in his own playing career, Pochettino assured that he knows how it feels to not be selected.
In his opinion, the players typically do not need explanations for the coach’s team selections.
– Those who were not selected do not want me to apologize, he said.
– I care. Do you know why I care? I haven’t slept in two weeks. To this day I still can’t enjoy the 26 guys in front of me because I still think about the ones that got left out. It’s caring. If I call the stranded players, it’s about me. If I call, I’ll say I’m really human and give an explanation. Come onthat’s horse shit.
The USA will face Paraguay, Australia and Turkey in the opening group.
