The Government is negotiating with Morocco the transfer of airspace management from Occidental Sahara, as the Executive has recognized in a parliamentary response.

“Conversations with Morocco in this area have begun,” La Moncloa stated in writing in response to questions from the Canarian senator Fernando Clavijo.

Conversations with Morocco in this regard “are limited to the airspace management and coordination between both parties in order to achieve greater security in the connections and technical cooperation& rdquor;, affirms the Government.

According to the Government, the negotiation is “in compliance with point 7 of the Joint Declaration of April 7 & rdquor ;, known as the “road map & rdquor; of the new relationship between Spain and Morocco agreed in 2022.

Point 7 literally says that “Conversations on airspace management will begin.”

For decades, the airspace of the Sahara has been managed from the Canary Islands, as established by the UN International Civil Aviation Organization.

In his question, Senator Clavijo was also interested in whether this issue was addressed at the High Level Meeting (RAN) held between the governments of Spain and Morocco in early February in Rabat, an issue that has not been answered by Moncloa .
