The Golden Venla gala will be gender neutral

The Kultainen Venla gala of the television industry is changing. Next year, the male and female actor of the year awards will no longer be awarded, but in the future, the main actor and supporting actor of the year awards will be awarded.

The Television Academy’s decision to hand out gender-neutral awards lays the foundation for social change.

– We felt that the leading and supporting actor awards are the right and familiar way to reward deserving actors, President of the Television Academy Antti Väisänen says in the announcement.

There will also be changes to other competition categories.

The previous category news, current affairs and affairs program will be divided into two categories in the future, which are news and affairs programme, and affairs program and documentary series. In addition, the previous category sports & events is divided into its own categories

– Separating news and current affairs programs as well as factual and documentary series into their own categories does justice to the genres in question. Likewise, several events, such as galas and concert recordings, are today big and visible TV productions, Väisänen reasons.

Filmiaura, which previously awarded the Jussi awards, has said that it will replace the awards for female and male actors with gender-independent awards.

The golden Venla gala will take place in January 2023.
