TOblackberries, drama and betrayals are at the heart of The girl and the officernew Turkish series airing tonight at 21.45 on Channel 5 with the first 3 episodes. Set in the early 20th century between Russia and Turkey, it tells of a love triangle that promises one twist after another.

Inspired by a true story, the protagonists are Kurt Seyit Eminof (Kivanç Tatlitug), Alexandra Surah Varjenskaya (Farah Zeynep Abdullah) and Petro Borinsky (Birkan Sokullu). Kurt is one of the Tsar’s best officers, as well as the eldest son of a Crimean Turkish family. He chose a military career in honor of his father, whom he has admired since he was a child. Also, he is convinced that he will marry a Turkish girl.
Sura is the youngest daughter of a Russian aristocratic family, distressed because her father is ill and he doesn’t have long left to live. Together with her father and her older sister Valentina (Seda Güven), she reaches Petrograd, today’s St. Petersburg, in the hope of finding effective treatments. In St. Petersburg they are guests of Petro and his family.
Petro is a fellow soldier of Kurt, forced to leave the army due to a mistake. Above all, he is a longtime friend of hers. And it is he who does meeting Kurt and Sura for the first time. It happens at a party. Between the two there is a classic love at first sight and they fall in love. However, instead of being happy for his friend, Petro harbors resentment, which perhaps derives from some past hostilities.

The girl and the officer comes alive with the Crimean War. Kurt is injured and returns to St. Petersburg. The situation in Russia is not the best. The revolution has broken out and his recent past as a soldier puts him in danger. The only way forward is that of escape. Together with his wife he decides to leave Russia to Turkey, despite the contrary opinion of their respective families.
Reaching Istanbul, however, is not a simple undertaking. From the start, the journey turns into a dangerous adventure through desolate and frozen territories. Furthermore also Istanbul is experiencing a moment of strong tensions due to the end of the Ottoman Empire. To add pathos, their love may not be strong enough to withstand big jolts, family interference, society’s expectations and… a third wheel.

Filming took place between Istanbul, St. Petersburg and Ukraine. The series, the most expensive ever produced in Türkiye, is based on Nermin Bezmen’s bestsellers. It’s composed by two seasons, for a total of 21 episodesand was first broadcast in 2014.
The cast includes two actors much loved by the Canale 5 audience. The protagonist Kivanç Tatlitug starred in Brave and Beautifulin which he plays Cesur. Demet Ozdemirwho here wears the role of Alina Sokolova known as Alya, was the protagonist of Daydreamer – The wings of the dreamnext to Can Yamanin which he played Sanem Aydin.
The girl and the officer it is not the first Turkish product that is preparing to conquer the Italian public. They are different the series and soap operas that have won the hearts of viewers in recent years.
