The German Cabinet denied that DW was not invited to accompany Scholz to Moscow

The official representative of the German Cabinet, Steffen Hebestreit, denied reports that representatives of the German Deutsche Welle would not be among the journalists who would accompany German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on a trip to Moscow.

“In order to avoid any misunderstanding: Deutsche Welle is invited to the chancellor’s trip to Moscow,” wrote he’s on Twitter.

Formerly newspaper Tagesspiegel informedthat the press and information department of the German government did not allow DW journalists to accompany Scholz. The publication wrote that Berlin could take such a step in order to avoid conflicts with Moscow.

On February 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the imposition of sanctions against Deutsche Welle in Russia. Among the measures are the closure of the DW correspondent office in Moscow, the deprivation of accreditation of employees of the Russian bureau of the media company, the termination of satellite and other broadcasting in the country. The agency said that in addition to this, the procedure for recognizing the channel in Russia as a foreign media agent will be initiated. On February 4, DW announced the closure of its bureau in Moscow.
