In the provincial domain De Gavers, the Gaverbeek has been remeandered, but that would not cause any problems, because draining the water too quickly would cause flooding elsewhere. Buffering is the solution, it turns out. Deerlijk wants to evaluate the situation in order to intervene where necessary. “We know that we have to adapt to the intense periods of heavy rainfall and that requires an effort. Climate adaptation is high on our agenda,” explains councilor for water management Bert Schelfhout.
