The enthusiasm is no less. And certainly not the ambition. “Yes!”, Maartje Berkhout answers without hesitation when asked whether she wants to reach the top of the skating competition. “I want to become the best.” No surprise for her parents, who just saw her cross the finish line first. “Maartje has a lot of spirit,” says mother Wendy proudly. “When her father says: Maartje, we are going to cycle for an hour and a half, Maartje says: no, dad, we are going for two hours!”
