Represented the England national rugby team Tom Voyce43, is feared dead during Storm Darragh, which tore through Britain at the weekend.
Voyce was spending the evening with friends on Saturday, but never returned home. The Northumbria police consider it likely that the ex-athlete traveling by car has fallen into the river due to the flow caused by the flood.
– The authorities have found the car, but sadly Tom is still missing. It is most obvious that during his rescue attempt he has become overboard and died tragically, a police spokesman said,
The search continued on Wednesday morning.
In his 13-year rugby career, Voyce played nine matches for the England national team.
After he quit, he moved into the banking industry.
Voyce won nine caps for England during his career and spent six years at Wasps, from 2003 to 2009, where he helped them win European and domestic titles, moving there from Bath and then leaving to join Gloucester in 2009. He made a total of 220 Premiership Appearances before retiring in May 2013.
