More than two years ago we visited the Sweet Lake Wellness building site. An architect from the Ruimtemakers office explained which sauna rooms and other facilities will be built. In the meantime, construction has not started yet, but good news: it will happen soon!
In mid-January, the first piles will be driven into the ground at the construction site on Van der Hagenstraat. This is the start of the construction of the main building and the outbuildings with sauna and relaxation areas.
Delay
Architect Jacco Poleij says: “At basement level, the contractor would construct a technical room intended for water treatment. Only the level of this cellar space turned out to be not entirely suitable. We chose to build the technical room at street level, so that meant we had to pour 22,000 cubic meters of soil to get that room higher up. In addition, we have also had to deal with the corona period and a shortage of materials. All this has caused delays.”
This is what you can expect
According to the design of Ruimtemakers, Sweetlake Wellness will have a main building and several pavilions with saunas and relaxation areas in a green garden. Sunbathing areas with relaxing chairs, a pond with fish, bridges, swimming pools and a fountain can be seen on the drawings. Notable are the tree house sauna, waterfalls, whirlpools with a view over the garden, a salt bath, a cave sauna and a snow cabin.
Sauna with koi carp
One of the sauna rooms will have a view of a large aquarium with koi carp. “This does not yet exist in the Netherlands,” explains Jacco. “The aquarium, which is seven meters wide and three and a half meters high, can be compared to a basin in a zoo where visitors have a look at the underwater world. We fill the aquarium with koi carp so that sauna goers have a beautiful and relaxing view.”
More and more crowded
According to the architect, construction will take about two and a half years in total. Now the construction site in the Van Tuyllpark is still a quiet place where little seems to happen. But in a while more and more construction workers will be at work and construction sheds and storage areas will be put into use. “It is exciting because of the rising prices and less availability of building materials. But we are just going to start and estimate it positively.”
