According to the vice-speaker of the chamber, Konstantin Kosachev, many programs are being implemented in the Council of Europe that are not “a tool of NATO.” The senator believes that Russia will be able to participate in such programs

Russia, after leaving the Council of Europe (CE), may retain membership in conventions that meet its interests, declared Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev on the air of the parliamentary TV channel Vmeste.RF.

“If and when Russia leaves the Council of Europe, we, judging by the discussions that I hear, will make efforts to remain in those CE conventions, participation in which is in our national interests,” Kosachev said.

According to him, Russia will not completely sever ties with the CE. “We simply cease to participate in the activities of those structures that are obviously politicized, which are an instrument of NATO pressure on Russia through the Council of Europe,” the vice speaker said.

According to Kosachev, the Council of Europe is implementing a large number of work programs that may be in Russia’s interests. “Programs that are devoid of a political component and that will allow moving forward in the implementation of specific cooperation programs in a single legal space,” he added.
