The semi-final of the tango market took place on Saturday evening. Eight competitors made it to the next round.

The tango king of 2015, Aki Samuli, takes a stand on the debate about the tango market. Samuli has written about it on his own on his Facebook account.

– A sure sign of spring is always when Seijat and Sepot, the influencers of their own lives, start gathering on the internet to exchange a little of their thoughts, Samuli writes.

He lists examples of comments found in social media conversations.

– 1. The pole market has been ruined. 2. Where are the real tango sounds? 3. Reconciliations are shocking. 4. Maunuksela is fucked. 5. Referee game. 6. The best singers were dropped. 7. There’s no need to look at these any more.

– And a consoling message to your favorite, “you are still the favorite of the whole nation and the uncrowned king”, after the others have been barked at first, Samuli winks.

The ex-tango king points out that the singing competition has not been spoiled, but has been reformed closer to modern times.

– A singing competition and festival of this level cannot turn a blind eye and hold on to black and white time with both hands and look for the best Olavi Virta imitator year after year.

He also reminds us of the changing dance stage culture. The ex-tango king also praises the musician Samuli Jokinen arrangements that were heard in the semi-finals.

– We have been able to enjoy virtuoso Jokinen’s absolutely phenomenal musically ingenious arrangements in this competition. I believe that the original composer would feel great appreciation that the work still lives, and that someone has such a phenomenal ability to raise tones and scenes from it to a whole new level.

Samuli also defends the chairman of the jury, Marko Maunuksela.

– As for Maunusela, I have personally known the man for 11 years, and I must say that you can look for a better man for the chairman’s position on the jury. Marko is nice to everyone. Cheers and supports all competitors equally and sincerely hopes that they will succeed and give their best performance. It’s ridiculous to stone the man who knows best the pressure in the competition, the ex-tango king writes.
