Former head coach of the Finnish national ice hockey team Derek Holmes has died, according to an Ottawa funeral home on the website from the published obituary.
He was 86 years old when he died.
Holmes coached Leijon in the 1960–61 season. Under Holmes, Finland finished seventh in the World Championships.
In addition to the lions, he was also the head coach of the Canadian and Swiss national teams.
Holmes has won World Championship bronze in management positions.
He was elected to the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1999.
