Swifties no longer see the world of “The Tortured Poets Department” in black and white. Now T “He Life of a Showgirl”, the upcoming 12th studio album by Taylor Swift, has dipped its reality in bright orange and turquoise. The record is the fifth album of the singer-songwriter in five years-without the new admissions. And yet the fans of the thrill of confirmation never get bored. Notes and Easter Eggs, which previously looked like signs of delusion, could have been real all the time. New era, same classic tricks.
Notes from recent years
“It is so fun to be a fan of the Zodiac killer in popstar form,” wrote a Swiftie named Lacey on X, just a few hours before the official announcement of the new album was carried out on Tuesday at 12:12 p.m. “The excitement that I feel when the cryptic clues come together. Nobody does it like Taylor!”
The intoxication of the album announcement makes some fans believe that they could raise a car with one hand or let the time pass faster. You don’t even know how long you have to wait until Swift releases the album or even the first single. “A Taylor Swift announcement, followed by 48 hours of waiting for the cover and publication date, should actually be considered psychological warfare,” said Swiftie Josefina on X.
When browsing the past few years of Swift’s content, fans have found allusions to the show girl era until 2022 when she published midnights. “With ‘The Life of A Show Girl’ I pick up the narrative from ‘Bejeweled’. Remember that Tay is a show girl in the whole video. So you can win. Everything in the elevator and tower that she climbs is in Art Deco style, the wild 20s and the show girls of this era,” said another X user, Gaby. Others pointed out that the buttons for the 2nd and 10th floor orange are in the “Bejeweled” elevator scene – another indication of the number 12.
Easter Eggs on the Eras Tour
Further information was apparently hidden in the Eras Tour. In the video for “I can do it with a Broken Heart”, recorded during the tour, realized fans that Swift tried with orange burlesque feather subjects. Some Swifties continue. “Swifties I have just recognized another crazy Easter Egg,” announced an account called JB to X. “‘Applause’ by Lady Gaga – which ran before every show of the Eras Tour in the preliminary program – was released on August 12th.” (The song is also 12 years old today, but maybe that’s just a twisted random game.)
Swifties also delve into color theory. “Really enthusiastic about the person who mentioned the oxidization of copper in the color scheme,” wrote a fan named Joy. “The inevitable change and the undesirable change in appearance that goes hand in hand with the aging of a woman in the spotlight …”. The original viral post came from a fanin named Kaitlyn: “The color scheme is copper that oxidizes because a show girl figure stands on a podium, for the world, and over time it loses its shine … the weathering because you are the goal of global misogynia.”
Pop culture references and character parallel
Fans have also drawn parallels to fictional figures who were show girls in their world – like Lucy Gray Baird in “The tribute of Panem: The song of Vogel and Snake” or Carrie Bradshaw when she learns that Big moves to Paris.
So far, Swift himself has not addressed fans directly. She will appear on Wednesday in the “New Heights” podcast of her friend Travis Kelce and revealed the album title in the teaser to the episode. Overnight, however, Spotify-Billboards appeared with a code that led to a playlist entitled “And Baby, That’s Show Business for You” full of Swift songs. All songs by Max Martin by chance were produced. “Does Spotify even have the infrastructure for a Taylor swift, Max Martin and Shellback publication?” Asked a Swiftie. Another added: “I think that there are Swifties who don’t even know who Max Martin and Shellback are … Ancient texts revived.”
Producer speculation
This has also made many fans assume that Swift’s most constant employee, Jack Antonoff, is not involved in the project. “Jack Antonoff, I love you and your synthesizer very much and will defend you until my death. But Max Martin and Shellback, I welcome you back with open arms,” wrote Swiftie Holly about Swift’s other “1989” and “Reputation” producers. Another voice said: “Aaron Dessner, maybe we don’t see you at midnight for the album release. But I think we will meet you at 1 a.m. for a few bonus tracks.”
With “The Life of A Showgir” L, the Swifties are ready for their big appearance – somehow. “Being the Swiftie in the office is as embarrassing as if I had to go to bed in knowing that a whole press tour is waiting for me tomorrow,” wrote a user. It is show time.
