Robert Smith of The Cure has donated a guitar that he is auctioning off for a good cause.
The Cure have announced on their social media channels that they are auctioning off a Robert Smith guitar – the money raised will go to the family of a 13-year-old with physical disabilities.
The band posted the following statement about the auction on Instagram and Facebook: “Born with two rare genetic disorders, the extraordinary Nathan has overcome incredible medical challenges throughout his life. Despite being unable to speak and dealing with significant physical limitations, Nathan is known for his incredible spirit of life, bringing joy and love to his family and everyone who knows him.”
It continues: “After hearing Nathan’s inspiring story, Robert Smith was so moved that he donated a signed/annotated Schecter RS1000 ‘Busker’ guitar to be auctioned off to benefit the family. Their mission: to transform their home to better meet Nathan’s complex medical needs.”
Written in white marker on the black guitar is “A Haven for Nathan… and the world be called his own.”
Fans praise Robert Smith for the action
The auction takes place on Ebay instead – interested parties can bid until next Friday (December 20th). Currently (as of December 15th, 5 p.m.) three people have bid on the guitar. The price is currently 5200 pounds (the equivalent of just under 6250 euros).
In the comments on the post, fans show how enthusiastic they are about the campaign and Robert Smith’s commitment. “Wow, Robert Smith is the greatest man who ever lived” and “God bless Robert. This is a wonderful thing” are just some of the posts that can be read there.
Will The Cure give fans a Christmas song soon?
Robert Smith also recently appeared on Radio “I wrote a really catchy pop song! I’m still struggling to figure out how I’m going to release it.”
Apparently the 65-year-old was inspired by Wham! inspire: “When I was in the city all day, I heard ‘Last Christmas’ so many times. I think I just need to slap some Christmas words on it and get my song out!”
