The Cure present new songs at the start of their European tour

Kicking off The Cure’s European tour on Thursday, October 6th in the Latvian capital of Riga, there was two pieces of good news for fans. For the first time the group around Robert Smith played two songs from the long-awaited new album SONGS OF A LOST WORLD. Also, keyboardist Perry Bamonte is back in the band.

With a set list of (including encores) 25 titles, concertgoers could already look forward to a performance of considerable length. But the highlight was certainly the new title: “Alone” introduced the gig, “Endsong” was appropriately the last song before the encore. But also The Cure classics like “Pictures Of You”, “Trust” and “Fascination Street” could be heard. As part of the tour, The Cure are also coming to Germany for seven concerts: You can find the dates at the end of the article.

SONGS OF A LOST WORLD is one of two new albums announced by Robert Smith earlier this year. These should differ stylistically: SONGS OF A LOST WORLD should be the “darkest thing we’ve ever done”, the second should sound “upbeat”. Robert Smith has also announced a solo album for 2023.

There is no exact release date for the album yet. In the spring, Smith said he hoped they could get it out before the start of the European tour. This date has now passed, but there is no update yet. It’s been 14 years since the band’s last album: “4:13 Dream” was released in 2008.

Perry Bamonte was a keyboardist and guitarist in the band from 1990 to 2005. He reportedly left The Cure because Robert Smith wanted to downsize the group to a trio. Keyboarder Roger O’Donnell left at the same time as Bamonte, but he returned to the band in 2011.
