The CUP opens a “refoundation” process after the bad results in the elections

The CUP faces a process of “refounding”. After conceding two consecutive bad electoral results in both the municipal and general elections, the leadership of the anti-capitalist party has decided to take action on the matter and call on the militancy to open a debate starting next autumn to renew your proposal after verifying that it has not been effective. They did not manage to enter the city hall of Barcelona and they have also been left out of Congressreason for which the candidate and until now deputy, Albert Botranhas announced this Tuesday that he is retiring from the first line of politics.

In a letter sent to the membershipthe CUP pleads for a “refoundation” of both the organization and the militancy to address what it defines as “a new political cycle” in which Catalonia is immersed after having left behind the peak moments of the ‘procés’ and with an independence movement incapable of setting a course and shared strategy. The national secretariat -the direction of the formation- regrets not having made a “good reading of the situationof the climate, of the moment, of the exhaustion and the fatigue” of the movement and admits not having “lived up” when it comes to making their postulates materialize and getting institutional representation.

The organization plans that the debate will begin in the autumn, once it has been validated by the political council, and that it extend until the month of May 2024 with an eye on that their project is redefined when the call for the next Catalan ones arrives, scheduled for 2025. The ‘cupaires’ have asked for “maximum participation and possible openness” to their bases to be able to carry out a process that seems complex and that will be addressed through working groups, debate spaces and territorial and national congresses to culminate in a congress which conceives as a reboot. The objective, summarized, is “to renew the strategic and organizational proposal”, as well as the leadership of the party.
