“The criminal mind behind the grisly Christmas dismemberment: a look from forensic psychiatry” – Brand

Among the most ruthless criminal acts, dismemberment is deeply disturbing.

There are multiple and complex reasons that explain this extremely violent behavior. The most frequent is the so-called defensive dismemberment because the criminal does it premeditatedly, trying delete evidence, hide the true cause of death, facilitate transportation and hide the body.

In cases of extreme aggressiveness, dismemberment occurs by emotional states of anger or to humiliate the victim by degrading him beyond taking his life. In the most extreme and macabre cases, mutilation occurs in the crimes of satanic or lustful rituals where sadism and sexual perversions predominate.

Statistics indicate that most of the perpetrators are men between 26 and 40 years old, they physically surpass the victim, have skills in handling knives, and 40% know their victims or have some type of relationship.

It is estimated that only 25% of cases are related to mental disorders with alteration of reality or dementia. The aggressor criminal profile is predominantly linked to a psychopathic type personality characterized by absence of remorse, lack of empathy, emotional coldness and manipulation, and may also present sadistic characteristics.

According to journalistic sources, in the early hours of Christmas in the Lanús district a neighbor found a large suitcase in which there was a incomplete corpse of an elderly man whose head, hands and part of his right leg had been amputated. The clues led to the search of the home where the victim Atilio Pachu, 83, lived with his son Alexis, 47 years old, who He was sleeping holding a bloody knife, finding the head and right foot inside the freezer and the hands inside a bag at the back of the property.

Alexis would have said that He is a cook and that His father was tired of him, and he dismembered him to continue collecting his pension, although he did not admit to killing him until after his father was dead.

While forensic results are pending to determine the cause of death, Psychiatric and psychological expertise could offer a unique understanding of the motives and disorders that led to such a macabre act and unravel the mysteries that lie behind this disturbing Christmas scene.
