The plaque of Thibaut Courtois, current Real Madrid goalkeeper, for his 154 official matches played when he was a goalkeeper for Atlético de Madrid between 2011 and 2014 was ripped this Monday from the Paseo de las Leyendas of the rojiblanco club located outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, according to several images broadcast by ‘twitter’.

This event occurred hours after the response of Enrique Cerezo, president of the rojiblanco club, to a journalist when he was asked this afternoon about the request of some Atlético fans to withdraw recognition of the Belgian international goalkeeper from the aforementioned stadium tour. “Well, nothing, take a pick and a shovel and go take it from him,” replied the leader.

On the eve of last Saturday’s Champions League final in Paris, Courtois, who had lost the previous final he had played in 2014 in Lisbon when he played for Atlético Madrid and against Real Madrid, pointed out that he was now ” on the good side of history.

At Sunday’s celebration, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, an Atlético fan, told him: “To my dear Thibaut Courtois, because he made me enjoy a lot for a few years and yesterday -for Saturday- it was decisive; yes, those of us who cried in Lisbon with you and by your side are also on the good side”.

This Monday, at the same time, Enrique Cerezo also stated that the mayor of Madrid had “answered very well” to Courtois.

The Belgian goalkeeper played 154 official matches with Atlético de Madrid between 2011 and 2014, on loan from Chelsea. In that period, the team, with him as an indisputable figure under the sticks, won four of the eight titles of the Diego Simeone era: the 2011-12 Europa League, with 3-0 in the final against Athletic Club; the 2012 European Super Cup against Chelsea in Monaco (4-1); the 2012-13 Copa del Rey, with a 1-2 victory in extra time at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid; and the 2013-14 League with a club record of 90 points and with him as the goalkeeper with the fewest goals scored in the championship.
