The comic artist Sempé, author of ‘Little Nicolás’, dies

The drawer Jacques Sempe, one of the great French cartoonists, has died this Thursday at the age of 89 in his summer residence, as announced by his wife to the France Presse agency.

Author of the character ‘Little Nicolás’, he was a contemporary of Uderzo and Goscinny, but went beyond character comics to collect in the press such as The New Yorker, where he was in charge of the cover several times.

Born in Bordeaux in 1932, he began publishing in magazines such as Sud-Ouest and Noir et Blanc. He began publishing ‘Little Nicholas’ in 1950 with Goscinny.

Among his creations we could highlight those of Monsieur Lambert (1965) and Marcellin el balvo (1969, 1994) and Raoul Taburin (1995).

In 2009, he published ‘Contes de chats’ with the poetess Brigitte Fontaine.
