Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom’s Cybersecurity Center warn of reactivated scams where the sender of the scam message appears as the victim’s child. Messages typically start with a greeting hi mom or hi dad.

In the scam message, it is implied that the child has sent a message about a new number for one reason or another. The messages may include a mention of, for example, a broken phone and an invitation to continue the conversation, for example, on the Whatsapp side.

– Usually in the follow-up conversation, the criminal posing as a family member asks the recipient to transfer money to a bank account. The reason for transferring money can be, for example, getting a new phone, the Cyber Security Center warns.

If a loved one informs you of a new phone number, you should try to confirm the matter by contacting him in some other way.

Contact your bank immediately if you have made a payment based on fraud, a criminal has accessed your online bank or obtained your payment card information. After that, report the crime to the police.
