After a stability study in April, the city of Kortrijk decided to close the Kalkoven Bridge to all traffic. Several supporting pillars are in poor condition due to deterioration of the wood. The load-bearing capacity of the bridge can therefore no longer be guaranteed.

Today the final design for a new Limestone Bridge is ready. The city is investing 800,000 euros and expects it to be put into use by the end of 2026. The new Kalkoven Bridge will not be located in exactly the same location, but will move slightly towards the Broel Towers. This makes it better connected to the Kleine Leiestraat and the cycling and walking route via Parking Broeltorens.
