The Chicks singer Natalie Maines has called Donald Trump a “fugly slut” and accused him of using US taxpayer money to “pay off the rioters” – an unmistakable reference to the billion-dollar fund set up by the president for his allies and supporters.

In a typically blunt Instagram post yesterday, Maines wrote: “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes. This ugly motherfucker is using your gas money to pay the rioters. But don’t worry. I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything.”

The post coincided with the news that Trump has launched a $1.776 billion fund to direct taxpayer money to “victims of lawfare and weaponization.” The announcement came just hours after Trump withdrew a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. The subject of the lawsuit was the leak of his tax returns to the New York Times in 2019.

Tax money for Trump’s allies

The lawsuit naturally raised serious concerns about whether the president could use taxpayer money to compensate himself – the new fund is apparently intended to refute this accusation. The money will go to those who find themselves persecuted or victims of “weaponization” by the Biden administration. This could include the approximately 1,600 defendants in the storming of the Capitol on January 6th, whom Trump pardoned after taking office – or possibly Republican lawmakers whose phone records were confiscated by special counsel Jack Smith (according to the New York Times).

Trump himself, his two sons and his family business – all part of the IRS lawsuit – will reportedly not receive any money from the fund. They get an apology for that, and the settlement is said to contain a clause that prohibits the IRS from asserting tax claims against Trump, his family or his companies.

As for Maines, she didn’t comment more specifically on the shadow fund and kept her latest attack on the president short and sweet. She pointed out that her last post, in which she called Trump a “fugly slut,” had been deleted and wondered how long this one would last. (Almost a day later it is still online.)

Maines calls for sharing

She asked her fans to share the post and “keep the message alive” – and for the sake of completeness, she also mentioned Trump’s appearance in the Epstein files.
