Flights to the country were also stopped by the Kuwaiti airline Jazeera Airways. Azerbaijan Airlines also stopped flights with Almaty, the company said on Telegram. Passengers of the Baku-Alma-Ata route will receive a refund or an opportunity to rebook free of charge.

Protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2 due to a doubling of the price of liquefied gas. A government commission pledged to cut fuel costs, and President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev dismissed the government.
