During Berlin Fashion Week, the Berliner Salon will once again be a guest in the Gemäldegalerie at the Kulturforum. The group exhibition presents the work of 45 designers, including 30 new labels, and shows a total of 150 looks. The exhibition is complemented by the collections of seven accessory designers.
“The fact that a place as prestigious as the Gemäldegalerie shows the work of contemporary designers is a strong signal for the importance of fashion as a cultural asset,” says Christiane Arp, Chairwoman of the Fashion Council Germany.
Since 2015, the Berlin Salon has been offering up-and-coming designers a platform during Berlin Fashion Week. Arp is curating the exhibition together with Marcus Kurz, managing director of the creative agency Nowadays, who made the salon a central stage for promoting young German designers.
“The selection of designers shows the diversity, quality and creative strength of the German design scene. Each position represents an independent signature and for fashion as a contemporary cultural expression,” says Kurz.
In recent years, the Berlin Salon has consciously sought a dialogue between contemporary fashion and historical art. The designers deal with topics such as identity, self-expression and cultural expression and use the staging to place their work in an artistic context. In this way, fashion itself becomes tangible and tangible as a cultural medium.
The participating labels include Paula Kunkel, Nadine Aurin, Des Filles Désir and Sofia Hermens Fernandez. The exhibition is supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Enterprises and offers young designers a unique opportunity to present their work to a broad audience.
