Espanyol’s fans couldn’t stand the celebration of local rival Barcelona.
Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, located near Barcelona airport, had just hosted a metropolitan derby, which Barcelona had won 4-2.
The result meant the away team’s players could already start their title celebrations as the team moved 14 points clear of Real Madrid with four rounds to go.
However, the celebration came to a dramatic end, and the Barcelona players had to run to the locker room to escape the Espanyol fans who rushed onto the field.
Espanyol will surely be severely punished for their crowd’s misbehavior. It wouldn’t be surprising if a team fighting relegation had to play in an empty home stadium for the rest of the season.
