The Pelicans are in a serious place.

The Lahti team is 1-2 in the Playout series against Jukurs. Two more losses and Sami Kapanen The troops are invited to the league qualifier, which would be a real humiliation after the club’s million -year reports.

On Tuesday, the Jukuri slaughtered the Kurgon Pelicans with a number of 8-3.

– After all, the frustration and steams have come out quite a bit during that match. If you end up in that amount of ice, you can no longer have an unpacked negative idea anymore. But, of course, the kind of thing you have had to deal with and go through with the team. After the game, it was done through a long formula, Kapanen explains to Iltalehti.

The Lahti residents returned to the topic in Thursday’s practice, which was also summarized for the future.

– After all, this is not the case in this kind of match series. Must be able to move forward. We have always emphasized that things that have happened cannot be changed. A certain doctrine needs to be included, but things must also be left behind, Kapanen says of the message he has given to the players.

Not a problem but a challenge

The Pelicans, who advanced to the finals last season, went into the season with great hopes, but the result has been a hopeless hike.

The club’s activities have been overshadowed by the negativity throughout the season, which has been fed by the disappointments in the rink.

In the middle of the season, Kapanen, who has been hired, has even shown to be more difficult than expected.

– We were already in a really good place with it, but maybe it has been a surprise how strongly it has returned to the surface lately, he says.

– In a way, it is the responsibility of the individual, but yes, as a head coach, it is the responsibility of making a team, going through things with players and focusing on root causes. Make sure we are ready for the next dawn as a community and group.

Kapanen says Pelicans go through their own and opponent’s game, but the focus is on improving the basic technique.

– First, you have to get your own things rolling in a way that you then have the options and opportunities to start doing certain things. What does it take to make a game -like change, for example. It requires you to be mentally and physically present, you have a certain will, compression and implementation, Kapanen lists.

The head coach writes his perspective so that Pelicans “has no problem but a challenge”.

– There are always alternatives to how to solve them in challenges. This is the decisive difference that we have no problem, but we have challenges. They have to try to solve one by one and take things in the right direction.

The public abandoned

The gloom of the Pelicans has not only restricted the field. In the first two Playout Series home matches, the audience numbers have been 2,411 and 2,004.

In the regular season, the Pelicans home match was over 3,000 spectators, so the support of the Lahti hockey audience is disappearing at the worst of all.

“The only thing you can do about it is that you play with passion, emotion and maybe better than you have played,” says Kapanen.

– If the audience hasn’t been so much, we probably haven’t played a game that brings the audience to the hall or the placement in the regular season has not been fascinated by the audience, but all of these possible rooting are the past. It is useless to carry the burden with them anymore. It’s here and now.

The fourth match in the series will be played on Friday in Mikkeli. The Fifth Taisto is ahead on Saturday in Lahti.

Passion takes

Kapanen started at Pelicans on February 10th. Below there was a break from coaching for more than five years.

In Lahti, he has been in the midst of the crisis, but the work itself has still brought him pleasure.

– There have been many experiences here. I have received strong feelings of success and the moments of disappointment. No match has left cold. In that previous job, the presence was quite insensitive and clinical, and now it is anything but it, Kapanen compares his three -seasons talent search.

– Now I really really realize how long I’ve been craving for coaching.

The agreement with the Pelicans will cover next season.

– Now it would seem really difficult to return to the pre -work. Go to the audience side, take your phone, open the note page and tap some markings there. And then leave without a smile out of the hall.
