The alliance between ERC and EUiA runs aground due to the position of Mercedes Vidal on the Barcelona list

The expressed will of CKD and EUiA to coalesce in some Catalan municipalities, face to face the elections of May 28, has encountered the typical and logical problems derived from the preparation of the barcelona list, square where obtaining the councilor’s certificate is very expensive craving. The communist party aspires for its co-coordinator, and former councilor with Ada Colau, Mercedes Vidal, a guaranteed ‘exit’ place to sanction the signing that EL PERIÓDICO advanced. That is, a position on the list that, even in the worst case scenario (a Homeric hit by ERC in the elections) Vidal would obtain the minutes.

Republicans offer the number 7, a way of saying that they are convinced that the cut will occur below on the list. And the communists do not see it clearly, to the point that the coalition is in the air. It should be emphasized, however, since both parties agree on it, that the relations between the members of this unborn coalition “it is cordial and excellent”. The proof of nine of this is that they will compete together in more than a dozen municipalities. In the case of Barcelona, they clarify, the negotiation began later.

Beyond the Catalan capital, ERC and EUiA do present themselves in alliances in cities such as L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Cornellà, Mollet del Vallès and Sabadell, while in the case of badalona the communist formation will go under the umbrella of Dolors Sabater with the CUP and Guanyem.

No time

“The lack of time complicates the approach to the different aspects of a coalition in Barcelona& rdquor;, they maintain from EUiA, which clarify that, if the coalition formula is not sealed in the Catalan capital, neither Vidal nor anyone from the party will join individually to the candidacy However, they keep the door open to resume talks with the Republicans next week if the situation is unlocked.

The EUiA leadership argues that the crux of the matter is not only what position Vidal occupies on the Barcelona list, but that the pitfalls are “of concept & rdquor;. What is under debate, they insist, is a shared project and not the “simple signing & rdquor; of a leader. Starting from this base, they consider that it would be logical that Vidal, “the only councilor with government experience & rdquor; that would go on the ERC list and that, in addition, is a coordinator of EUiA together with Hector Sanchez, was located in an exit position on the list.

With the traumatic experience of the alliance with the Comuns still very present -they broke ties four years ago-, they understand that signing a coalition with ERC means agree on a program and, where this is not possible, agree that each of the parties may have their own voice. An example on a not minor issue: EUiA defends a policy of government pacts only with left-wing parties and is not favorable to an alliance or with Together or with the PSC. The relationship they ask for with Barcelona is, in fact, the same one that was used in the general elections with Sobiranistes -a platform created by the wayward Comuns- and with Joan Josep Nuet like number four.
