Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing his sixth World Cup at the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Now “CR7” has commented on what will happen next for him.
The 2026 World Cup will be the last for Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal jersey. The 40-year-old explained this at an event in Riyadh. In a video link, he answered the question about his future: “I will be 41 years old then, and I think that will be the moment.”
With 225 appearances and 143 goals, the Madeirian-born player is his country’s record player and record goalscorer. He was trained at Sporting Lisbon. Since 2006 he has taken part in five world championships. He became European champion with the Portuguese national team in 2016. At club level, he won the Champions League a total of five times with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The next World Cup will take place in Canada, Mexico and the USA in 2026. Portugal has a good chance of taking part. A win against Ireland next Thursday would mean a secure World Cup ticket.
He could imagine retiring from professional football “perhaps in a year or two.” The five-time world footballer is under contract with the Saudi club Al-Nassr until 2027.
