That’s why Gene Simmons had to sit during the concert

Kiss had to pause their performance in Manaus, Brazil on Wednesday (April 12) due to an unspecified health problem of bassist Gene Simmons. The rock band was in the middle of their set at the Arena de Amazônia when Simmons – apparently gasping – sat down and initially tried to play on.

Before long, Paul Stanley, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, stepped in and announced a brief delay to the show. “We have to stop to take care of him. After all, we love him, don’t we?” the 71-year-old addressed the audience. He then asked the fans to applaud his 73-year-old bandmate. “All right – we’ll try to see you later. We love you,” Stanley said after fans showed their appreciation for Simmons.

The band returned to the stage shortly thereafter. Gene Simmons looked better after the break and waved to some fans in the crowd, according to the Brazilian magazine “critica” reported. Kiss played the show to the end, but without the traditional zip line ride – which had to be canceled for “safety reasons”.

A day later, Simmons finally gave the all-clear. He was just dehydrated:

The Manaus show kicked off the South American leg of their “end-of-the-road tour” with the Scorpions and Sepultura. The next appointment is next Saturday (April 15) in Bogota, Colombia.
