The winter break came at the right time for Eintracht Braunschweig. Many of the injured players should be back afterwards. This is the situation in the BTSV hospital.

When coach Daniel Scherning was asked about Eintracht Braunschweig’s personnel situation before the games, the coach usually gave a monologue afterward. Week after week the list of injured players grew. During the winter break we hope that as many players as possible will return.

And the first positive news was reported right at the start of the year. Sidney Raebiger was back on the pitch on Thursday for the first time since his thigh tendon injury. The 19-year-old midfielder had been out since November and initially completed an individual session with rehabilitation coach Alex Bülow. When he can take part in team training again depends on the further healing process.

Another bright spot: full-back Marvin Rittmüller, who has been sorely missed since the beginning of October, is nearing his comeback. He returned to the team at the first training session in 2025. However, he hasn’t completed the entire team training yet. Rittmüller had been struggling with a persistent muscle injury for months.

Defender Paul Jaeckel and center player Sven Köhler also completed parts of the team training on Thursday. Both were recently ill. Winger Leon Bell Bell, midfielder Robin Krauße and offensive player Walid Ould-Chikh – all of whom were injured at the end of the year – were also only involved in parts of the team training.

Attacker Sebastian Polter, who has been out since mid-December due to a foot tendon injury, was completely missing from the pitch. Strike partner Levente Szabo was also looked for in vain on Thursday. The Hungarian has recovered from the bruise that caused him to miss the last five games, but has now had to miss the game due to illness.

The long-term injured Sidi Sané (right wing), Tino Casali (goalkeeper) and Niklas Tauer (defensive midfield) will be out for a longer period of time after tearing their cruciate ligaments.

The personnel concerns will accompany coach Scherning into the new year. However, the situation is expected to improve further in the coming weeks. Before the start of the second half of the season on January 18th against FC Schalke 04 (1 p.m.) there are still two test matches. Next Sunday we play against FC St. Pauli (4:30 p.m.), on January 11th Energie Cottbus visits Braunschweig (1:30 p.m.).
