Queen Máxima said something about her smartphone use in front of the Blauw Bloed camera, but what? That is not easy for everyone to follow. Yet Shownieuws does not subtitle her. “Not done.”
It is a challenge for many people: limiting screen time. Queen Máxima also thinks that she sometimes spends too long on her phone. “Then I say: this is really not possible,” says Willem-Alexander’s wife in Blauw Bloed (see the fragment below). “Then I spend half an hour doing all kinds of things, except sending that person a message.”
Not super good
Show news showed that fragment last night. TV critic Victor Vlam then says at the desk: “I don’t think her Dutch is very good. I know it’s not popular to say, but I was wondering: are you going to subtitle this fragment or not? You have chosen not to do it, but it is borderline.”
Royalty fan Sandra Schuurhof: “Couldn’t you hear her?”
Victor: “I thought it was borderline, yes.”
Consideration
Airen Mylene, the presenter of the program, says that people are only subtitled if it is really unintelligible. “We do decide whether we can understand it, yes or no, but that went fine. But you have difficulty with that?”
Sandra awkwardly: “I don’t think we’ve ever subtitled the queen.”
Victor: “25 years in the Netherlands. When I see it like this, I think to myself: I don’t think it’s very good.”
‘Is it allowed?’
Celebrity photographer William Rutten wonders whether it is lèse-majesté if you subtitle Máxima. “Can you subtitle it?”
