Yolanthe Cabau received a PR campaign from Netflix with a billboard in every bus shelter, but her viewing figures seem to be seriously disappointing. “That is not that good,” Bram Moszkowicz notes.
It had to be a compelling portrait of Yolanthe Cabau: glitter, glamor, pain and growth. In reality, her soap series of the same name on Netflix turned out to be a kind of long Instagram story with a lot of emptiness and little surprise. Only a serious horse accident brings some emotional grip, but then you are already yawning four episodes.
Not so good
The result: the viewing figures disappoint fierce. “We were told that she was in the top ten of Germany and Turkey, but it has now come out that the total of the first two episodes had 900 thousand viewers. So that is actually 450 thousand per episode,” says BN’er photographer William Rutten to the desk of Shownieuws.
Presenter Airen Mylene on that: “Everything? In total, of all countries worldwide? 900 thousand?”
Bram Moszkowicz Droogjes: “That’s not that good.”
Roaring texts
William agrees. “That’s not very much.”
Airen: “No.”
William: “You are wondering: a second season has been announced …”
Airen: “We also saw the net in the picture, all those roaring texts that it was so well received and went so well.”
William: “It can be well received and good reviews, but that does not mean that the viewer is going to look. You really looked it, isn’t it?”
“It’s hard”
Show expert Eline de Ruig is not enthusiastic. “Yes, I found it only to be five interesting from episode, but it is difficult to really have a success internationally. An adolescence appeals to everyone, that is a larger audience.”
Bram: “I haven’t seen it, but what’s less good about? If you only found it interesting?”
Eline: “Well, it links a little cru, but of course she has that accident at some point and that ensures that you get to see the real Yolanthe and that you really sympathize with her.”
Double
Only then will it become a bit interesting, says Eline. “I think it is double to say, because I wish her anything but such an accident, but because something like that happens you want to know how to end. You see no matter how hard she is.”
William: “So that accident was actually a gift for production.”
William: “Meghan Markle is also not happy either, because her series has only been viewed 5.3 million times and that is really bad, because she really has concluded a million deal. So it can be much worse, boys.”
