That’s how much money full-time parents should actually earn

A job with a wide range of topics, long working hours and no pay. One thing above all else, being a full-time mother or father doesn’t make you rich. According to one calculation, however, that should be the case.

The portal “Warenvergleich.de” made a calculation to determine how much salary a full-time mother or father would actually be entitled to. Various factors were included in the calculation: The mother or father was assigned different jobs in the performance of parental duties, their respective duration was estimated and a gross salary was calculated using the average salary of these jobs.

Eight professions in one

Warenvergleich.de calculated for a full-time mother or a full-time father with a 14-hour day, seven days a week. In one week, the parents are employed around 28 hours as educators, which is reflected in around 1,845 euros per month. According to the portal, parents work as teachers around 14 hours a week (1,467 euros). That’s exactly how long it takes parents to cook, which also translates into a gross monthly salary of 710 euros. Also working 14 hours a week, being a cleaner is time-consuming. Nevertheless, thanks to this activity, the gross monthly salary adds up to another 646 euros. Full-time mothers or fathers allegedly spend 10.5 hours a week as a chauffeur (790 euros per month). According to estimates, parents work as psychologists seven hours a week, for which another 624 euros per month are due. In order to cover organizational matters, mothers or fathers also work as managing directors in the broadest sense, with a gross monthly salary of 1,292 euros for seven hours a week. According to Warenvergleich.de, parents spend very little time as nurses. For an average of 3.5 hours a week, this is also the smallest item in the gross monthly salary: 231 euros.

The bottom line is that full-time mothers or fathers should receive a monthly salary of 7,605 euros.

Just thought

There’s no question that going through the day as a full-time mom or dad is hard work. However, one thing should be noted in the above calculation: the respective average hourly wages for the activities were used as the basis for the calculation. These average salaries include training and studies for the respective professions. While parents do all of these jobs, they are likely to be considered “unskilled workers” in most cases.
