Gerard Joling has one thing that his ex-TV buddy Gordon must be very jealous of: the gun factor. Will his TV soap become a hit? “Goor’s was so depressed!”
The friendly and never wronged Gerard Joling enjoys an incredible amount of sympathy among the Dutch people. The men from Today Inside also love him. His former TV buddy Gordon is not nearly as popular as he is – will this also be reflected in the viewing figures? After Goor, Geer also gets his own real-life soap and it will be broadcast on RTL 4.
Depressed
Gerard always tries to be very diplomatic about Gordon, but in conversation with The Telegraph he cannot resist making a mockery of his soap opera. “I think it will be a controversial series. Not as depressed as Gordon’s, I like to laugh,” he says.
Wow, that must be a sore point for Goor. The entertainer kept shouting that the Netherlands would get to know his real self, but then he just started cursing and ranting in that soap as we are used to from him. From Angela de Jong to Aran Bade: everyone was verbally abused. And of course we shouldn’t expect anything like that from Geer.
Much less
It makes Gerard proud that he is so embraced by the people. “There have been years when things went a lot less well. I sometimes thought that the end of my career was in sight. Many people think that it all came naturally to me, but that is not the case. I work hard, that’s how I achieve success.”
“Since I turned sixty, I am often asked whether I am already thinking about quitting. I don’t worry about it. My plans for this new year are already ready.”
Concert Hall
What plans? “I will continue to perform and have also started the first preparations for a one-off, intimate concert, where I want to sing all my big hits. No, not in the ArenA, as I have been doing with the Toppers for years. I think of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.”
And in terms of TV? “Last year I appeared on television in The Masked Singer, Oh, what a year! and on land, on sea and in the air. And if it’s up to me, I’ll continue with it. Not only because I like it myself, but also, and perhaps even more, because I have the feeling that the audience loves me.”
