To find out this, scientists played two pieces at the same time-one of them was high, the other pitched down. They noticed that the test subjects were able to process the rhythm of the song pitched downwards more easily; When they were asked to knock the song with them, the listeners chose the deeper of both.
The techno kids were right!
From this, the researchers summed up that we love pieces with present bassline so much because we can better process and understand music if it primarily includes tones from the lower end of the spectrum. By the way: This applies not only to a “manually” operated, physical bass, but also to electronically produced tones-so the techno kids are always right!
