TH Lübeck achieves top marks in the CHE ranking: Start of studies and contact with professional practice perform particularly well

In this year’s CHE university ranking, students gave ratings in engineering sciences, among others. With around 120,000 people surveyed and more than 300 universities and colleges of applied sciences as well as dual universities and vocational academies, the CHE ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in the German-speaking world. At the TH Lübeck, two areas performed particularly well. mechanical engineering and civil engineering.

Mechanical engineering in three categories in a top position

The mechanical engineering course shines with a top place in three categories. The subject achieved very good grades in both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In the bachelor’s degree, the students voted the supervision at the beginning of their studies a top place. Roland Kral, head of the mechanical engineering course at the Technical University, says about the performance of his subject: “We offer our students personal support right from the start. With us you can develop your passion for mechanical engineering in an environment of committed teachers. Through various contacts of the lecturers in the economy, the students have the opportunity to get in touch with their potential employers already during their studies.”
Former student Vivien Vergin was also able to experience this: “During the mechanical engineering course, I was well prepared for the exams through the preliminary courses and the tutorials during the first semester. In this way and through the projects offered – such as the Seagulls Lübeck or the student council – I made contacts across semesters, which made learning more pleasant, more interesting and more familiar for me”.

Contact to professional practice from the beginning of the course

But the students also chose two categories in the top group in the civil engineering department: the contact to professional practice in the bachelor’s degree and the completion of the course in a reasonable time. Prof. Birger Gigla, head of the Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering, is enthusiastic about the placement: “We encourage contact with professional practice from the first semester onwards. Be it through excursions to construction sites or lectures by practitioners on campus – the students receive support in this area very early on. The success is shown not least by the fact that the students often find an employer who accompanies them in their career even during their bachelor’s degree.”

Prof. Holger Lorenzl, head of the Master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, is very satisfied with the result: “The fact that so many master’s students graduate quickly shows us how well the course of study is adapted to the needs of the students. Personal support makes it possible to provide them with the best possible support.”

About the current CHE university ranking 2022

Students evaluate their study conditions in the current CHE university ranking, which appears today in the ZEIT study guide 2022/23 and in the digital study orientation offers from ZEIT ONLINE. This year subjects from engineering sciences, linguistics and cultural studies as well as psychology were examined.
